The initial discovery pool of 350 bellwether cases has been chosen in the Zantac litigation. This group of cases will undertake case-specific discovery and the briefing of case-specific motions over the next year. The purpose of a bellwether case is to determine if the larger class-action lawsuit has the merits required to make it worth pursuing.
The Zantac Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee has been working with expert witnesses (like oncologists, toxicologists, and epidemiologists) to research the link between the contaminant in Zantac (ranitidine) and the development of specific cancer types. These initial findings were presented to the judge assigned to the Zantac litigation, Judge Rosenberg, in early December. This was an important step as it is critical to educate the court about the science behind the contaminant before our experts submit their reports in the coming months.
