Minnesota Motorcycle Laws

As we’ve discussed before, the state of Minnesota requires all motorcycle riders under the age of 18 wear a helmet However, GoldenbergLaw’s motorcycle accident lawyers understand that there are a number of other relevant laws it’s important you know.

Following these laws will help keep you safe and on the right side of the law. However, doing so will also protect your legal rights should you be involved in an accident while operating your motorcycle.

In addition to the helmet law, motorcyclists in Minnesota should be aware that:

  • You must wear eye protection
  • Your headlight must be on at all times if possible
  • “Lane splitting” is explicitly prohibited in the state
  • However, two motorcycles can ride abreast in a single lane
  • The motorcycle must have a passenger seat if you are carrying a passenger
  • A motorcycle must have at least one rear view mirror

A good working knowledge of the state’s motorcycle laws is important. Our motorcycle accident lawyers always urge those on the road to drive safely and in accordance with all relevant state and local laws.

There’s no guarantee that doing so will keep you safe, of course. Reckless and negligent drivers pose a danger to even the most conscientious motorcyclist. Our lawyers are ready to help if you suffered an injury in an accident while operating your motorcycle.
