The Selection Process
The Best Lawyers in Minnesota list is excerpted from The Best Lawyers in America© annual list, which highlights lawyers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, in nearly 140 practice areas. Lawyers are nominated for consideration, and nominations can be submitted by:
- Clients
- Attorneys
- Marketing team members
- Other third-parties
Lawyers cannot nominate themselves nor can they pay a fee to be considered. After nominations are complete, lawyers previously included on the annual list are sent ballots based on their practice areas and geographic location. The ballots do not allow voters to simply select a nominee but instead ask them to provide a peer review.
The next phase of the process is the analysis of the feedback stage. During this stage, voters are asked how likely they are (on a scale of 1-5) to refer a client to certain nominees in the event they are unable to take their case. The editorial staff then reviews the peer review and feedback results.
Attorneys who have made it through the previous two stages are checked against state bar association sanction lists and investigated to ensure they are in good standing ethically. Finally, the list of recognized lawyers is released.
