VIDEO: Minnesota Teens Promote Sober Driving

The car accident lawyers at GoldenbergLaw, which serves Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding communities, commend students from Chanhassen High School and Chaska High School for producing this drunk-driving prevention video for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Entitled “Only One Choice,” the video is scripted in such a way that each teen is speaking directly to his or her mom or dad. The video tugs at the heartstrings of adults in the community, and most directly, the heartstrings of those who are parents.

“You always put me first… (and) I need you to do one more thing me. It’s important. It’s could save your life, my life, or somebody else’s life. … Please, make driving sober a priority.”

The teens’ message is especially pertinent given the time of year.

Holiday-season merrymaking often includes alcohol consumption, and it can be difficult to decipher how much alcohol a holiday-themed drink may include. This becomes an issue when deciding whether or not you are in any condition to get behind the wheel of a car.

Consider that the average craft beer tends to have about twice as much alcohol as a “regular beer,” according to the Minnesota DPS. The same is also true of many mixed drinks like margaritas and Moscow Mules.

The best tip for anyone who plans on a night of holiday conviviality while consuming adult beverages should take care to plan ahead. It is advisable to:

  • Know the alcohol content of what you’re drinking.
  • Arrange for a sober ride home.
  • Look out for your friends and loved ones.
