Minneapolis Hospital Safety Scores

Posted on 06/28/2016Back

The website HospitalSafetyScore.Org is operated by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization focused on “driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system.” Three Minneapolis hospitals have been graded by this site, yet only one has been awarded an A. Full information on criteria and grading standards can be found here, but results were:

  • Hennepin County Medical Center – D
  • University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview – C
  • Abbott Northwestern Hospital – A

The Leapfrog Group reviews rates of infection, surgical error, and safety problems, along with practices in place to protect patients, and the training of doctors, nurses and hospital staff, grading each according to averages established throughout the nation. These grades help draw attention to poor practices while also guiding patients to the safest hospitals in their area. They also highlight how ineffective many of our nation’s hospitals are at keeping patients safe.
