Prius Parking Brake Failures

Toyota has issued a safety recall for approximately 92,000 model year 2016 and 2017 Prius sedan vehicles. According to Toyota, the parking brake on these vehicles can become inoperative. If this issue occurs when a driver leaves the vehicle without first putting the transmission into “park,” the car could roll away, resulting in a crash, injury, or even death. The company will begin notifying owners of the recall in November.

Defective vehicles injure and kill hundreds of people every year. While this defect may seem less worrisome than exploding airbags or sticky acceleration pedals, it is nonetheless a safety concern for the roughly 92,000 people who own one of these vehicles. Why Toyota has decided to delay the mailing of its recall is unknown, but you can learn if your Prius is included by visiting Toyota’s Safety Recall & Service Campaigns page and entering your VIN. The fix for this issue is simple and fast and available for free to all Prius owners.

At GoldenbergLaw, our defective vehicle attorneys thoroughly investigate all claims to determine if a manufacturing defect or design flaw could have caused injury. If it can be established and proven that a vehicle manufacturer failed to create a safe product, compensation well in excess of insurance offerings can often be obtained. The best way to learn if you are entitled to seek this type of compensation is by discussing your case and your rights – free of charge – with one of the product liability attorneys at our office.
