Ford Recalls 1.4 Million Vehicles

With rival automaker General Motors reeling from a controversy surrounding their recall of more than a million vehicles for ignition switch malfunctions, Ford Motors recently announced four separate recalls that together affect more than 1.4 million vehicles.

The recalled vehicles include:

  • 915,000 2008-2011 Ford Escapes and Mercury Mariners (steering issues)
  • 196,000 2011-2013 Ford Explorers (steering issues)
  • 196,600 2010-2014 Ford Taurus vehicles (license plate lamp malfunction)
  • 82,500 floor mats for the Fusion, Milan, Zephyr, and XKZ models (mats can come in contact with the accelerator pedal)

In the case of the steering issues, connection failures and sensor breakdowns can disable power steering. According to Ford, they are aware of 20 crashes and eight injuries that occurred as a result of the issue.
