Six Tips: Pediatrician-Suggested Holiday Toy Safety

The defective product and personal injury attorneys at GoldenbergLaw, serving the communities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, know that it can be dangerous to presume that a product will be safe just because it is made for, and marketed to, children.

With that in mind, here are six holiday toy safety suggestions from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

  • Holiday Toy Safety Tip No. 1: Check age suggestions. Allowing a young child to play with a toy that is designed for an older child could be dangerous.
  • Holiday Toy Safety Tip No. 2: Always read instructions. It’s not unusual for kids or parents to become injured during toy assembly.
  • Holiday Toy Safety Tip No. 3: Avoid giving electrified toys to very small children.
  • Holiday Toy Safety Tip No. 4: To avoid a choking hazard, never give babies and toddlers toys with pieces that are smaller than 1 1/4 inches in diameter and 2 1/4 inches long.
  • Holiday Safety Tip No. 5: Toys with buttons, batteries, or magnets require adult supervision. All of these items can become lethal if swallowed.
  • Holiday Safety Tip No. 6: Balloons are considered a choking hazard for kids under the age of eight. Never allow unsupervised balloon play, and never allow a child to display a balloon on or above their bed.

If someone in your home or family happens to sustain an injury this holiday season from a toy or product, and you believe that injury happened because of someone else’s negligence, please contact the Minnesota defective product and personal injury lawyers at GoldenbergLaw to explore your legal rights: 612-436-5026.
